Specifies the settings for the email-to-SMS gateway of a single mobile phone carrier. If a carrier has more than one email-to-SMS gateway, you must create a separate Mobile Phone Carrier definition for each gateway.

Group or Region

Specifies the location (up to 255 characters) where this carrier is a valid option for sending text messages. You can also use this option for grouping cell phone carriers together. By default, the list of carriers is sorted first by Group or Region. This is a required field.

Display Name

Specifies the title (up to 255 characters) for the carrier. The Display Name appears in the drop-down list where the patron selects the phone company through which the message is sent. This is a required field.

Email Address Pattern

Specifies the format (up to 255 characters) that the carrier requires in order to pass the message to the correct phone number. When the patron sends the message, Enterprise requests the phone number and mobile carrier. The phone number the patron enters is inserted as part of the email address. Most carriers use a standard format that includes just the phone number at the carrier's domain. However, some carriers require other elements in addition to the phone number. For example, T-Mobile requires a "1" before the phone number. Email Address Pattern lets you specify the correct format for a carrier. This is a required field.

In the Email Address Pattern, "$NUMBER" indicates the location where the phone number will be inserted into the email address. All other characters compose the remainder of the email address. For example, the pattern required by T-Mobile is "1$NUMBER@tmomail.net". When a patron enters a phone number, for example 999888777, the text would send "19998887777@tmomail.net" to the T-Mobile SMS gateway.

Note: If you are unsure of the pattern for a phone carrier, contact the carrier. Wikipedia also has a table that may have the information you need.

Minimum Digits

Specifies the fewest number of digits in the phone number that constitute a valid phone number for the carrier. Anything less than this number would not successfully send a text. If the patron enters a phone number with fewer digits, Portfolio display an error message.

Note: This field is not required. When this field is left blank, phone numbers are not be checked for a minimum length.

Maximum Digits

Specifies the largest number of digits in the phone number that constitute a valid phone number for the carrier. Anything more than this number would not successfully send a text. If the patron enters a phone number with more digits, Portfolio display an error message.

Note: This field is not required. When this field is left blank, phone numbers are not be checked for a maximum length.

Enabled

Specifies whether the carrier will appear in the Mobile Carrier drop-down list in the Searching interface. When selected, the carrier's Display Name appears in the list. Disabled carriers are not be shown to users. In the Mobile Phone Carriers list, disabled mobile phone carriers are shown in gray.
